Horrible company. Can't contact anyone on the phone, they do not return calls, unfair claim delay, lack of communication, lie about e-mails they supposedly sent.

Another bad experience

AI Highlights
  • - Assurant began charging monthly for renter's insurance after proof of coverage.
  • - A $150 fee for not renewing was added despite proof.

I had my own renter's insurance at my last apartment. Assurant stepped in and started charging monthly for their renter's insurance.

Even after I proved (again) I had renter's insurance, they never stopped charging me and never refunded my money. So I moved. Today I had a $150 fee tacked on to my lease for 'not renewing my renter's insurance.' I did renew it, and I gave the office proof. They said they had switched to Assurant in December and...

I stopped him and said that was the problem. They attach themselves to rental properties and steal as much money as they can from tenants. Anonymously. You never meet an Assurant agent.

They hide behind the leasing agents. How they are able to constantly steal from people is beyond my comprehension.

Loss:
$700

Preferred solution: I would like them to go out of business.

User's recommendation: When you hear "Assurant" just be aware that they are going to steal from you.

Slecht onderzoek telefoon

AI Highlights
  • - -Phone buyback offered undamaged and under warranty.
  • - -Value set to 0 due to power issue.
  • - -As ICT head I will avoid this company for hardware disposal.

Loss:
$400
Cons:
  • Not fair

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: Geen zaken doen!

The worst company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Spectrum protection paid $186.21, well below expected refund.
  • - Uploading proof is tedious; one photo at a time.

Lies, scams, stunts, shows and shenanigans...baby, they got it all! So I have their protection plan through Spectrum.

My phone broke through no fault of my own...screen just cracked as it is a folding phone. So I've paid my insurance for over a year...I should be good, right? Oh no, not right! Get the phone, get the reimbursement.

I buy the phone from Best Buy and upload all of my proof to the website (which only allows you to upload ONE photo at a time, each photo having to be accompanied by a long form you have to fill out. Had I not made a collage of the information, this would have taken all day as they wanted SO MUCH information. You can't tell me a company of this size can't have an uploader capable of uploading more than one photo at a time. That's the first step in their BS, but it's certainly not the deepest!

Stay tuned for that!) So all of the information is in, I send them the broken phone and they let me know they will send me my check minus the $99 deductible. Great. I paid $349 for the phone...$386 after taxes. Minus the 99, I should be getting back $249 IF we're not counting taxes, $286 if we are.

But what do I get a check for? $186.21! So starts up the BS engines! They'd sent me an email with the amount the check was supposed to be and of course I lose it.

I immediately contact customer service to ask how is it that my check is $100 less than it should be. The customer service person proceeds to lie and tell me they have no idea how much the refund is for and there's no way for them to know. YOUR COMPANY LITERALLY SENT ME AN EMAIL SAYING HOW MUCH IT IS!!! I DIDN'T JUST PULL THIS NUMBER OUT OF MY BUTT!

So he INSISTS that there's nothing that can be done until I get the check. Ok. I get it. It's in the low amount promised.

Back on the line with customer service. This person does the math right along with me, sees that with tax my deductible was actually $103. I say ok... there's $4 accounted for...where's the rest?

She apologizes for the short check, then says she'll have someone from payables contact me the next day. (This happened on a Wednesday.) Monday comes...still haven't heard from anyone. So back on the chat AGAIN. This time (and this is the TRULY fun part of the story!) the customer service agent tries to tell me they've talked to payables and the amount of the check is "valid".

I'm like how??? Explain it to me with the amounts I gave you, how you came up with $186.21. She then proceeds to do the math MAKING THE DEDUCTIBLE $200!!! I said excuse me???

When was the deductible $200??? That was never discussed or a part of the play! She then tells me I need to provide a bank statement showing where I paid the deductible! YOU TOOK IT FROM MY REIMBURSEMENT CHECK!!!

She THEN claims that actually they have nothing to do with the deductible amount, that's actually all Spectrum. At this point, I'm so mad if this woman were in my face she'd need medical attention. Because now you're simply *** on my leg and telling me it's raining. I know for a FACT Spectrum, the same company you told me I can't get a phone from, has NOTHING to do with my deductible amount!

You're the insurance company! YOU SET THE DANG DEDUCTIBLE, TF?!?!? I also ask how just last week the agent could see the deductible amount as $103, but now MAGICALLY for her it's $200? Then, I guess once she realized I wasn't born yesterday, she finally goes "Oh yeah, now I see where the deductible was $99!" YOU SAW THAT TO BEGIN WITH, YOU JUST LIED!

Next day has come and I STILL haven't heard anything from these people and would bet all the tea in England I won't ever hear from them.

You're better off setting your money on fire than giving it to these absolute grifters. We need another Mangione!

Loss:

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: You'd be better off investing in Rent-Em-Spoons!

“The warranty’s backing insurer (American Bankers/Assurant) is just as bad—impossible to reach, no help given. Feels fraudulent to advertise insurance protection that vanishes when you need it.”

“The warranty’s backing insurer (American Bankers/Assurant) is just as bad—impossible to...

American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida is listed in my CarShield contract as the insurance company that guarantees performance if CarShield or American Auto Shield fails to pay a claim within 60 days. This clause was a major reason I trusted the contract it is supposed to protect the consumer when the administrator does not perform.

Unfortunately, when my Jeep Grand Cherokee overheated in July 2025 and CarShield refused to cover the claim, I attempted to contact American Bankers Insurance Company directly as the contract allows.

Despite multiple calls to the number provided (866-306-****), I was redirected several times and could never reach anyone willing to assist. Instead of honoring the insurance-backing obligation, they simply passed me back to CarShield the very company that was failing to perform.

This left me with no support and no resolution, even though more than 60 days had passed since my original request for coverage.

My vehicle has been unusable for over a month, I am still making loan and insurance payments, and the insurer has done nothing to uphold its role.

Consumers should know that this safety net may be meaningless in practice. American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida has not responded to my claim or fulfilled its obligation to step in when CarShield refuses to act.

Loss:

Pros:
  • Save money because they are impossible to reach
Cons:
  • Leave you frustrated

You either misunderstood exactly what American Bankers role is or were misinformed by someone. American Bankers guarantees payment to you/mechanic for any Car Shield APPROVED claims.

In the event Car Shield holds up or does not pay on a claim they approved, AB will pay after 60 days. They aren’t a “second opinion” or “appeal” insurance that covers claims Car Shield rejects.

Terrible Repair Service

AI Highlights
  • - GE dryer with Assurant coverage has broken down repeatedly.
  • - Repairs arrive without notice and parts aren’t ready.
  • - I won’t renew and will tell others.

I have Assurant repair coverage for my GE dryer. The dryer has broken down serval times, and when the repair person arrives, most times without calling us first to let us know when they will arrive.

They usually arrive in their personal car and don't have the parts to do the repair and the parts will not arrive for another week or longer. Assurant needs a fully stocked parts warehouse and the repair people need to arrive with a van with all the parts needed to do the repair or warehouse near by to pick the parts needed.

Will not purchase Assurant appliance coverage again. Will let all family and friends know about their terrible customer service.

User's recommendation: Find some one who can do the repairs in a timely manner

They wouldn't even send me a case to cover it. Now I have to cancel the service and buy another phone.

  • - Do not use this company; they will rip you off.
  • - They stole $1,600 and sent only a $15 refund check.
  • - Dealership tried to recover refund but failed.

Do not use this company and avoid at all costs. They will rip you off and steal your money.

They stole my $1,600 refund and only sent me a refund check for $15. Even my car dealership agreed with me that I'd been tipped off and added that they definitely owe me the money. The dealership also tried to retrieve my refund from this dishonest company but had no luck. Stay away from this company.

I wish I had read the bad company reviews before my dealership signed me up with them. Please avoid this company at all costs.

They don't pay out claims or refunds. The worst part is that I never filed any sort of claim, although everyone else who has filed claims hasn't received satisfaction, only agony because of non-payouts by the company.
